Welcome to CIMS
CIMS is Community Information Management System
It is a tool to help maintain information about, for or from Hispanic and Latinos.
Think of it as a database to help people stay informed.
Plus it will be one of the first places that I look for news and info to post on HispanicTips
All you have to do is Register then Add Your Release/Info on this page
Please be aware that there is an approval process. Read this page to fully understand CIMS.
Exploring CIMS –» Start Here
The main category (and a good place to start) is CIMStastic.
Everything is categorized so you can sort through the information as you like just look at the menu to the right.
Why CIMS
My name is Tomás. I provide the best news service for, from and about Hispanics and Latinos at HispanicTips. My mission is to make news and information easily accesible.
I believe, no I know, that there is a huge void and problem in the way we as a community (Hispanics and Latinos) deal with news and information. I was at a conference and this is what I kept hearing over and over.
- We want more exposure and organization for what we know and feel is important.
- We want an easy way to be informed about news and information that is relevant to us.
The internet must be the backbone of any solution we use. So CIMS was born. It is nothing new or grand but it is a specific application of the technology that is available and I have implemented it in my unique way (of course).
CIMS is open to anyone interested in creating, maintaining and learning from a centralized space for our information.
- Organizations
- Businesses
- Marketers and PR folk
- Interested Individuals
CIMS provides an easy way:
- to get some exposure (plus as I stated above good information found here may get additional exposure on HispanicTips.com),
- to organize information
- to learn, research and stay informed about us.
Information is categorized by (see the menu to the right)
- location,
- subject matter,
- information type
- date and time for events and
- date of publication.
The types of information provided are (see the menu to the right):
- Articles of Interest
- Calls to Action
- Commentary
- Creative Work
- Events
- Questions
- Press Releases
- Suggestions
How to add your information
CIMS is open to anyone however they must have a valid reason to become approved.Going back to an older model of this kind of system, I am going to call the approved people Kgente. Kgente is a play on the phrase “Que gente” and short for knowledge gente. Gente means people..
You may register to become a Kgente, but I won’t be approving just anyone or else CIMS would become just another spam filled wasteland. I need to know you or about you, so you may be required to provide some background information like what organization you are with and maybe I will even give you call to chat with you. When you register you will get an e-mail with instructions. I am serious about only letting those who have the good of the community and nation at heart but at the same time I want as many people to use it as possible.
There are only a few rules to follow
- Relevance: make sure your material is relevant to Hispanics and Latinos
- Respect others - keep it clean - remember you represent - this includes copyright issues don’t copy more than 3 paragraphs if you don’t have the copyright
- Concise Titles - include dates, locations and key words
- Correct Organization - make sure you check off the correct categories and if you want to use Tags go ahead.
- CIMStastic Category!!! - Make sure you check the CIMStastic category so your posts will be seen on the main page.
- Language - use English or Spanish or ??? just keep it clean
- Uploading - yes you can even upload stuff - but make sure your info isn’t in a jpg or gif because that is really useless on the web. Image are just that images.
- Event Calendar - If you are putting something in the Event Calendar make sure you input date and time in the Event Editor
- I am sure I will come up with more but for now these will suffice.
- I am excited what may come out of this especially if we all work together.
Register here. Please be aware that you may start adding things right away but none of them will appear on the site until I approve your application. Once approved you are free to do what you want within reason. Also I may at times approve whatever was submitted but not approve the person registering. We will just have to see how things shake out.
